Larks fall to Broncos

EL DORADO — The Hays Larks' rally came up a run short Friday night in Jayhawk League action against El Dorado.

The Larks scored three runs in the ninth, but the Broncos held on for a 5-4 victory.

The two teams were scheduled to play again Saturday night.

In the Hays ninth, the Larks got within a run and had the tying run at second with two outs. But James Stephens came in to get the final out, retiring Seth Fortenberry on a grounder to earn a save.

Starter Josh Blake took the loss for Hays (13-8, 8-7). Blake (1-2) worked seven innings, giving up four runs on four hits, with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Toro Trevino was the winner, allowing just one unearned run on four hits in six innings.
