Larks win 3rd straight

LIBERAL — The Hays Larks won their third straight game Wednesday night, defeating Liberal 7-5 in Jayhawk League action.
The Larks took three of four games from the Bee Jays to improve to 16-10 overall, 11-9 in the Jayhawk.
J.C. Field hit two doubles and a triple, with two runs scored and two RBIs to lead Hays. Warren Schaeffer drove in three runs and Kevin Russo had two hits, including a solo homer, his team-leading sixth of the season.
Hays scored four runs in the second and three in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead.
Matt Rainey, the second of three Larks relievers, was credited with the victory for being the most effective pitcher. Rainey (1-0) tossed two scoreless innings. Stephen Marek retired the final three batters for a save.
Starter Ryan Riddle was the losing pitcher for Liberal (10-12 overall, 3-7 Jayhawk).
Hays will return to action Saturday at 7 :30 p.m. at Larks Park, in the first of a four-game Jayhawk series with the El Dorado Broncos. Saturday's game is Old-Timers' Night.
