Larks drop 3rd straight

7-6-04

By The Hays Daily News

LIBERAL — For the third straight game, the Hays Larks lost by the same 5-4 score.

Monday night, it was Jayhawk League rival Liberal turning the trick. Hays lost a pair of games at El Dorado over the weekend by the same score.

Hays manager Frank Leo said the Larks had their chances, but didn't take advantage of them. Hays (13-10 overall, 8-9 Jayhawk) has lost three straight, and five of its last six.

“We had a chance early to get a few more runs, didn't get it done,” Leo said. “... We're stuck in a rut right now.”

Hays starter Jason Schutt (2-1) took the loss.

Seth Fortenberry went 2-for-3, including a triple, with one RBI.

Jeff Mandel (1-3) and Joseph Edens (1-1) are the probable starters for tonight's doubleheader with the Bee Jays.
