Another win for Larks

ELKHART -- The streak continued Tuesday night for the Hays Larks when they made it five consecutive wins by beating the Elkhart Dusters 8-4 and moving into a first-place tie with El Dorado atop the Jayhawk League standings.
Although the Larks were in second place down 1/2 game going into yesterday's match up, by virtue of the Broncos not playing and the Larks winning, the two teams are now tied for first in the league.
The Larks broke the game open in the third inning by scoring five runs off five hits, including two doubles and a home run by Seth Fortenberry — one of two for him in the game.
Kevin Russo hit a solo home run the next inning to supply the team's eighth and final run.
Hays finished with 18 hits in the game. Billy Sharp was 3-for-4, and Russo went 3-for-5 and had a double.
Bob Reifschneider pitched eight innings for the Larks and gave up three earned runs. He also struck out 10 batters and improved his record to 3-3.
Elkhart had just one run going into the bottom of the ninth inning. And although they put up another three, the seven-run deficit was too large to overcome.
The Larks wrap up the series with the Dusters tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Elkhart.
