KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Hays Larks continued their winning
ways with a 15-6 victory over the Kansas City Sluggers in
nonleague action Thursday night.
Starter Andy Pape worked six innings to get the win, Pape
(3-0) scattered seven hits, with two walks and five strikeouts.
He pitched four scoreless innings before eventually giving
up five runs, four earned.
"Pape did a nice job," Hays manager Frank Leo
said. "He probably extended himself more than in a
year or so; it was a hot day. He was very good the first
four innings."
As were the Larks" hitters. Cody Ehlers went 4-for-6
and drove in four runs, with three runs scored. He hit his
team-leading sixth homer of the summer. Aaron Batlle hit
his second homer for Hays and had two hits, with three RBIs
and a run scored.
Craig Cooper hit two triples, drove in five runs and scored
twice. Jerod Goodale had two hits, with two runs scored
and an RBI. Pete Maropis singled and doubled, with one run
scored and one RBI, and Ben Tinius also collected two hits.
Hays (22-3) took a four-game winning streak into Saturday
night"s nonleague game at the Wichita Twins. The Larks
are scheduled to finish their seven-game road trip with
another nonleague game tonight at the Wichita Braves.
Hays will return home Monday for a 6 p.m. Jayhawk League
doubleheader against the Topeka Capitals at Larks Park.
